Mission Statement

UCCC’s mission is to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in fighting poverty and loneliness in ethnic minority groups, promote family values, raise awareness across all age groups and create activities for young people to avoid mischief.

UCCC Monthly Cultural Social Event (Kibbiitu)

This is characterised by a traditional meal, music, dance and drama, poems, workshops for adults and children. The UCCC Monthly Cultural Social Event (Kibbiitu) is organised and sponsored by the various sub-groups / Bubondo within UCCC every after celebration of our Luganda monthly Church service.

Luganda Service

Ugandan mass is celebrated every Second Sunday of each month, 2:00pm at St Chad's Catholic Church South Norwood led by a Ugandan Priest. It’s normally conducted mainly in Luganda & English. This is to encourage our children to understand mass clearly and strengthen the concept of identity in our community. The mass is also streamed live online.

Aims & Objectives

1. To combat loneliness among the ethnic minority communities.

2. To relieve poverty and sickness.

3. To promote the preservation and protection of health and to advance education         among ethnic minority communities.

4. To improve the wellbeing of people in areas of London and rolling out services

to other areas out of London.

5. To encourage the goodwill and involvement of the wider community.

6. To foster community spirit and encourage civic pride.

UCCC Management appeals to everyone who might be experiencing difficulties possibly as a result of the current lockdown to come out and inform your Kabondo Leaders or any member of UCCC Management so that we organise support to reach out to you.

“PLEASE DON’T DIE IN SILENCE, UCCC IS A FAMILY AROUND YOU”

We also appeal to anyone to reach out to any Ugandan/s who live alone via telephone and let management know if they need support.

The situation is so precarious that anything can happen through LONELINESS. Together we must win this virus with God’s favour

DO NOT DIE IN SILENCE

10/08/2023

Dear UCCC,

I greet you all in the name of our Lord.

Re: Updates/road map drafted following the recent management Meeting

1. UCCC Accommodation

The CEO met with the Archdiocese designated personnel on 06/08/2023 and discussed the hardships we (UCCC) are currently facing.

Outcome:

Archdiocese designated personnel will have a discussion with the parish priest once he returns from annual leave. He will also discuss the matter with the vicar general. He will also make a follow up with the relevant authorities regarding allocating UCCC a permanent Ugandan Priest who will also be supporting the parish wherever we will be based.

2. Buy Hall Project:

a. UCCC management discussed and supports the ideas brought and passed at the last general meeting including -

-Each family making a voluntary contribution of not less than £200 payable within a period of 6 months.

-Each member to make an unspecified and voluntary amount of money towards the Buy Hall Project and invite friends and well-wishers to do the same.

-Meeting with the fundraiser is likely to take place next week (date not yet specified)

b. In the meantime, searching and viewing of alternative premises continue as we wait for Officials from Croydon Council to return from annual leave.

c. Any other strategies are welcome.

3. Future Projects:

Despite the current housing situation, UCCC Management supports the initiation of the following projects.

-Ekyooto for Men (near future)

-Ekisakaate for Women (near future)

-A joint seminar for both women and men following completion of the Kyooto and Kisakaake (near future)

-UG/UK Spiritual and Educational exchange program and workshops for Juniors and
Youth (further details to be provided)

4. Liturgy Office

UCCC Management supports the following:

- Allocation of permanent Ugandan Priest to UCCC who will also be supporting the parish wherever we will be based, work has already started (see No. 1).

-Campaign to recruit into our choir a pianist/organist/choir master and more men with specialities in Ugandan church music and instruments (work starts immediately so that our choir is fully staffed by Kigungu Day 2024).

-Skilling of the already available alter servers and recruitment of new ones.

-Supporting families who are aspiring for the following:

a. Holly Matrimony

b.Baptism

c.Holly Communion

5. Munno Musanyu

Management is in the process of drafting the above guidance so that our members receive well-coordinated and regulated support as is the case for Munno Mukabi.

Together UCCC will flourish.

Re: Health Alert

It has come to my attention (through various consultations and discussions) that some members in our community are currently experiencing high levels of anxieties or abnormal fear.

We acknowledge that we had serious traumatic events in the past months due to Covid-19 and other stressful situations in our community.

We also have cases where people are experiencing severe headaches or migraines.

Caution!

If you are in such a predicament:

1. Please don’t force yourself to go to work to avoid the worst.

2. Contact your GP for an assessment

3. If you don’t have a GP please contact me personally on the number provided below

4. Please try to rest and relax as much as you possibly can.

5. Please inform a friend, relative, your Kabondo Leader or myself about your situation.

It is very important that we continue to support one another

UCCC Tips To Cope With Bereavement

Grief hits us differently and can adversely affect our physical and mental health:

  • Do not suffer in silence, UCCC Family is here to help, talk to us
  • Try as much as you can to attend UCCC Duyiro activities so you can interact with people of similar backgrounds
  • Expect strong feelings to come back from time to time
  • Avoid blaming yourself for the loss but remember that it’s only the Lord who has the powers to give and take life
  • You might become irritable, don’t worry as this is part of the healing process. You might consider reciting the bible or Quran
  • Plan out your day/s in advance so you can have some structure.
  • Keep up your hobbies as much as is possible.
  • Keep busy so as not to dwell on unhappy thoughts, feelings and loneliness
  • Keep around people in your bubble, avoid spending longer periods of time alone
  • Take every opportunity to talk to others about how you’re feeling.
  • Share stories with people who also knew and cared about the deceased
  • Try to keep up with your daily routine so you don’t get overwhelmed.
  • Talk about your memories with loved ones and friends.
  • Stability helps. Avoid moving or changing jobs wherever possible.
  • Try to support others whose grieving process is longer or more difficult than yours.
  • If your symptoms aren’t getting better or you would like extra help, talk to your GP, Priest, Community Leader, therapist etc
  • Don’t judge people who are expressing their grief differently to you
  • Try to get enough sleep, eat a well-balanced diet, and exercise regularly.
  • Some times, bereavement causes family conflicts please try to avoid them and seek support from a priest, sheikh, community leaders, elders
  • Ensure that you maintain SOPs to avoid catching or spreading COVID-19

TOGETHER WE SHALL BEAT COVID
